  15. This section lists some known problems with Disinfectant. Many of these
  16.  
  17. problems involve incompatibilities with older versions of other software.

  21. If you have a Rodime Cobra disk drive, make certain that you are using
  22.  
  23. version 1.1.3 or later of the Cobra disk driver. Earlier versions of the
  24.  
  25. Cobra driver contained an error which caused problems with Disinfectant.

  29. Both the Disinfectant program and the Disinfectant INIT are incompatible
  30.  
  31. with versions of ‚ÄúGreg‚Äôs Buttons‚Äù earlier than 1.5. The incompatibility
  32.  
  33. can cause crashes and other problems. If you use Greg‚Äôs Buttons, make
  34.  
  35. certain you have version 1.5 or later.

  39. The Disinfectant INIT is incompatible with versions of Robert Mathew‚Äôs
  40.  
  41. ‚ÄúSpeed Beep‚Äù earlier than version 2.0.6. The incompatibility causes
  42.  
  43. Speed Beep to refuse to work. If you use Speed Beep, make certain you
  44.  
  45. have version 2.0.6 or later.

  49. The Disinfectant INIT is incompatible with versions of Microseed‚Äôs
  50.  
  51. INITPicker earlier than version 2.0. The earlier versions of INITPicker did
  52.  
  53. not properly deal with INITs whose names begin with a special character.

  55. If you use INITPicker, check to make certain that you have version 2.0 or
  56.  
  57. later.

  61. The Disinfectant about box plays a tune. On some Mac models with some
  62.  
  63. versions of the Apple system software, the tune is not played correctly
  64.  
  65. (the timing between notes is not correct). There is nothing we can do
  66.  
  67. about this problem.

  71. Disinfectant will not detect infected files if they are part of a StuffIt,
  72.  
  73. Compact Pro, or other kind of archive, if they have been converted to a
  74.  
  75. text file with BinHex, if they have been compressed with PackIt, or if
  76.  
  77. they have been compressed, converted or archived by some similar
  78.  
  79. utility. If you have such files and want to make certain they do not contain
  80.  
  81. infections, you must unpack them and check the unpacked files.

  85. Disinfectant does, however, work properly with automatic disk
  86.  
  87. compression utilities like Disk Doubler and AutoDoubler. With these kind of
  88.  
  89. utilities, files are automatically decompressed when programs access
  90.  
  91. them.

  95. Disinfectant cannot be used to check the backup floppy disks or tapes
  96.  
  97. produced by most of the various hard disk backup utility programs. These
  98.  
  99. programs usually write their backups in a special format which is not
  100.  
  101. recognized by Disinfectant. If you suspect that your backups are infected,
  102.  
  103. we recommend that you first disinfect all of your other disks (hard drives
  104.  
  105. and floppies), then do a new full backup, and finally erase (reformat) all
  106.  
  107. of your remaining suspect backup floppies.
